Tattoo Removal: What to Expect
You’d probably love to be able to go back in time and tell Younger You NOT to get that tattoo. Since that’s not possible, you may be wondering about Tattoo Removal, how it works and what you could expect. No one can wave a magic wand and make your tattoo instantly disappear, but Skintastic’s advanced tattoo removal technology could be the solution you’re looking for. Our focus is always on making you more beautiful.
Is it Time to Move On?
Every tattoo has a story, but is it time to move on? The problem with tattoos is that while the tattoo is permanent, people’s tastes and lifestyles change. What was “fun” at 21 just doesn’t work for you now. Who would want a tattoo of their ex’s name inside a heart? Were you disappointed by the tattoo artist’s skills? Is your once-bright tattoo faded or distorted?
Your reason for wanting to get rid of a tattoo is personal, but there is also one very practical reason. An exposed tattoo could cost you your dream job in your chosen profession, in the military or in government. CareerBuilder.com reported that the presence of an exposed tattoo plus new rules and regulations reduces your chance of being hired by 31%.
The Advantages of PicoSure Laser Tattoo Removal
For thousands of years, tattoos have been used for social or religious reasons, to signify membership in a group or as personal art. Tattoo removal has a history almost as long. However, there is no comparison between early and modern tattoo removal methods. For a very long time, the only way to remove the ink was to remove the skin containing the ink.
Luckily, laser technology is a tremendous advance in tattoo removal, destroying the ink with no cuts to the skin and no blood. We’re proud to offer our patients the state-of-the-art PicoSure Laser, the most advanced and powerful laser available today. Patients experience significant advantages:
How Do Lasers Remove Tattoos?
During a PicoSure Laser treatment, the tattoo is gently targeted with laser energy, shattering the ink into tiny particles that are naturally eliminated by the body. As more ink is destroyed in each treatment, the tattoo becomes lighter and lighter.
Skintastic also offers Spectra Q-switched YAG laser treatments. This robust, versatile laser is a better tattoo removal option for certain tattoos and skin types.
How Many Tattoo Removal Treatments Will be Needed?
After the free initial consultation, you’ll be told how many treatments should be needed to achieve your desired result. The PicoSure is so efficient that each treatment completes relatively quickly.
What is the Tattoo Removal Process?
Treatments must be spaced at least 4-6 weeks apart. Healing will appear complete long before that, but it takes several weeks for the body to process the ink particles. Scheduling more frequent treatments won’t remove the tattoo any faster but could increase the risk of scarring. We want to be sure you achieve the best possible result.
How Long Does It Take to See Results?
Everyone is different. Some patients notice an improvement after the first treatment, while it takes several treatments for others. Following the recommended post-treatment protocol will help achieve your goal and avoid adverse events.
What Post-Treatment Care is Needed?
Each patient is given specific post-treatment care instructions. Typically, laser treatments are iced to reduce swelling, followed by an antibiotic ointment and a sterile dressing. Patients normally resume their daily activities after a treatment, although we do recommend limiting physical activities for the first day or two.
In other words, it’s fine to go back to the office, but postpone a vigorous exercise routine. Limit sun exposure until the treated area has healed completely so you don’t irritate the skin. Of course, we encourage our patients to contact us with any problems or questions.
