Laser Hair Removal is a fast non-surgical procedure that gets real results. It is a is a non-invasive procedure that uses beams of highly concentrated light to penetrate the hair follicles; the absorbed light then causes the hair bulb to die and fall out. This treatment can be used to remove unsightly hairs from the face, leg, arm, underarm, bikini lines and other areas where unwanted hairs are a problem. Laser lights are attracted to the pigment in your hair root follicles causing the follicle to overheat and die. Because Laser Hair Removal requires pigmentation to be effective, it does not work on gray, white, blonde or certain types of red hair. These hair types do not have enough pigmentation in the follicles to attract the laser light.
We provide high quality, non-surgical Laser Hair Removal with Candela Lasers at affordable prices. Stop waxing and shaving forever – these non-surgical procedures are all performed in our office under the guidance of a highly trained physician led staff.
In the past 15 years our staff has performed over 650,000 Laser Hair Removal treatments and they have become known experts in the field. Throughout the state of Texas no clinic has performed more treatments then Skintastic (including operations formerly as Smooth Solutions). Other providers who see them as experts, because of their vast knowledge, to answer questions on protocols and other issues, frequently contact us for guidance.

How Does Permanent Laser Hair Removal Work?
The Basic Science: Lasers that are used for laser hair removal/reduction are programmed to target a single spectral wavelength—the color of the hair. The heat that the laser produces is absorbed by the pigment (or melanin) of the individual hairs. The quick flash of laser heat damages the hair root where most of the hair’s melanin is stored, so that the root will now be permanently unable to continue growing hair. The laser heating is carefully timed so that only the hair shaft and root are affected, while surrounding tissue is not damaged. Skin color, hair color and density all are considerations for the laser operator. Darker skin-types cannot always safely be treated with conventional laser hair removal treatments because their darker skin melanin also attracts laser heat. While various hair reduction lasers have been developed which claim to be safe for people of color, Skintastic does not endorse a specific laser as being consistently safe and effective for all darker-skinned patients.
Simply put: Laser hair removal causes permanent thermal damage to pigmented hair follicles through a high energy directed light so that the hair follicle no longer produces hair. Not all hair follicles are actively forming at the same time, Hair grows in 3 distinct phases: growth , regression and resting. Actively growing hair is more effective to Laser hair removal.
How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments are Generally Needed?
Permanent laser hair ‘reduction’ is a more accurate description. It is important to understand that hair grows in cyles. While hair follicle #1 is growing hair, follicle #2–beside it may be in a dormant ‘resting’ stage, while hair follicle #3 is shedding its hair. From one follicle to the next, whether it is growing, shedding or resting is entirely random. Therefore, a number of laser hair removal treatments must be spread out over several months to treat most of the follicles as they enter their individual growth cycles, when the hair root is active and the melanin is available for laser heat-targeting. Complete hair removal is not always possible–no matter how successful the treatments are, you are likely to encounter ‘straggler’ hairs that managed to evade the laser’s heat by remaining in a longer resting phase. A 60 to 80% overall hair reduction in the treated area is generally considered to be a successful hair reduction result. Every patient is different—the number of treatments you need will depend upon a combination of factors, including your particular skin-type, your hair color and density, and the length of your hair growth and dormancy cycles.
Simply put: Since the laser works by destroying hair that is primarily in the growth stage, there will be several treatments needed depending on hair color and density. Other hair will enter growth phase at different times. Therefore, additional treatments are necessary. We offer packages of 6 to ensure all hair is treated. Some clients may need more or less treatments.
Who performs Laser Hair Removal?
We have laser professionals in our team that are certified and experienced to provide the best treatment for you.
Can everyone be treated for Laser Hair Removal?
At Skintastic, we offer the latest and safest lasers that work on all skin types. However, there has to be pigmentation in your hair for the treatment to be effective. White/grey hair will not respond to laser hair removal and blonde/red hair are more resistant.
We offer complimentary consultation to ensure what will be best for you.
What areas can be treated by Laser Hair Removal?
Any body part can be treated except around the eyes.
Can men get laser hair removal?
Yes. Laser hair removal works for both men and women.
What is the minimum age for laser hair removal?
It is advisable to wait till puberty since the body goes through hormonal changes that can cause re-growth. However, with parental consent there is not set age on laser for 17 and under.
What does laser hair removal feel like?
You are likely to feel a tingling/stinging sensation after each pulse; more of a “zapping” feeling. Some areas of the body are more sensitive compared to others. We make sure to make you feel as comfortable as possible during the treatment.
What to expect during laser hair removal treatment?
We require that the hair on the treated area be shaved before the treatment. The laser will be adjusted according to the skin color, hair color, thickness and location of the hair. Cold ultra-sound gel will be applied to the area to be treated before starting the treatment. We will walk you through each step and make sure you are well aware of each step.
How can the pain be minimized during laser hair removal?
We offer the safest and most effective lasers (Candela and Vectus). During the treatment, we used the zimmer cooling device along with an ultra-sound cold gel. Topical anesthetics and ice packs are available as well. We also offer numbing (lidocaine) for any one that requests it.
What happens after the treatment?
The areas treated are likely to become slightly red and swell, a condition called perifollicular edema (folliculitis) which usually dissipates in a couple of hours. Anti-inflammatory creams and ice-packs will be provided to eased any discomfort. Within 3-14 days after treatment, you will experience that the hair treated will shed or “fall out” leaving you with a hair free period until the next growth cycle which will be targeted in your next laser session.
What are the benefits of laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal will benefit you in getting permanent hair reduction. Laser hair removal will reduce the frequency of shaving or using other depilatory methods. You will have less hair after each treatment and this will prevent razor bumps, burns, and irritations. Another benefit is that there will be fewer ingrown hairs since the hair is being reduced after each treatment. Ultimately resulting in a smoother skin.
What does laser hair removal cost?
Laser hair removal is best purchased in packages, since you will need a few treatments, and periodic touch-ups. If you purchase in a package, you can save significantly on the cost per treatment. We also offer discounts and package specials on laser hair removal at both our Dallas and Plano location. Call our office to schedule a complimentary consultation – and we will help customize a package just for you.
