Festive Holiday Cocktails

Want to change things up at your holiday party this year? These five festive holiday cocktails will add a little extra holiday spice to the typical beer, wine and champagne drink menu. Try some of Skintastic‘s favorites!

Warm Butter Whiskey

You’ll need:
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 2 tablespoons maple syrup
• 1/4 cup rye whiskey
• 6 tablespoons hot water
• 2 tablespoons ginger liqueur
• Freshly grated nutmeg

Mixology:
Beat heavy cream and maple syrup in your mixer on medium speed for two minutes or until it is the consistency of softened butter. Cover and chill for one to 24 hours. Pour rye whiskey, hot water, and ginger liqueur into a 6-oz. mug. Top with 1/4 cup of the maple-cream mixture and freshly grated nutmeg.

Berry “Mocktail”

You’ll need:
• 5 fresh raspberries
• 4 fresh blueberries
• 2 fresh blackberries
• 1 1/2 tablespoons light agave nectar
• 5 fresh mint leaves
• 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
• 1 cup crushed ice
• 6 tablespoons water
• 2 tablespoons ginger ale
Optional garnish: halved fresh raspberries and blackberries

Mixology:
Muddle raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, light agave nectar, mint leaves, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Stir in crushed ice and water. Cover with lid, and shake until thoroughly chilled (7 to 10 seconds). Pour mixture into a 16-oz. glass, and top with ginger ale. Add garnish if so desired.

Gingerbread Martini

You’ll need:
• Ginger liqueur
• Crushed gingersnaps
• 2 tablespoons ginger liqueur
• 2 tablespoons vanilla-citrus liqueur
• 1 1/2 tablespoons coffee-flavored rum
• 1 tablespoon honey
• 2 teaspoons whipping cream
• 1 cup ice cubes
Optional garnish: partially split vanilla bean brushed with liqueur and rolled in sugar

Mixology:
Dip glass rims in ginger liqueur and crushed gingersnaps. Store glasses in freezer up to two days. Stir together two tablespoons ginger liqueur, vanilla-citrus liqueur, coffee-flavored rum, honey, and whipping cream in a cocktail shaker. Add ice cubes; cover with lid, and shake until thoroughly chilled (about 30 seconds). Strain cocktail into a chilled martini glass. Add garnish if so desired.

Hot Cider Egg Nog (with non-alcoholic option)

You’ll need:
• 2 cups half-and-half
• 1 cup milk
• 1 cup apple cider
• 2 large eggs
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup bourbon (optional)
• 1/2 cup whipping cream, whipped
Optional garnish: cinnamon sticks

Mixology:
Whisk half-and-half, milk, cider, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a saucepan; cook over medium-low heat, whisking occasionally, until mixture thickens and coats a spoon (about 15 minutes). Add bourbon if desired. Serve topped with whipped cream and garnished with cinnamon sticks, if desired.

Pepper Jelly Margaritas

You’ll need:
• 1 cup tequila
• 1 cup fresh lime juice
• 1/2 cup orange liqueur
• 1/3 cup powdered sugar
• 1/4 cup green pepper jelly
Optional garnish: lime slices

Mixology
Stir together tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, sugar and pepper jelly in a large pitcher, stirring until sugar and pepper jelly are dissolved. Fill cocktail shaker with ice cubes; pour desired amount of mixture into cocktail shaker. Cover with lid, and shake until thoroughly chilled (about 30 seconds). Strain into chilled glasses with salted rims and serve.
