Dermaroller Therapy

Dermaroller Therapy is a cosmetic procedure that involves stimulating the natural process of skin regeneration.  There is no addition or subtraction to the skin, simply creating what is perceived as damage by the body, is enough to make it initiate the healing process and repair itself.  This type of stimulation is an excellent way to repair a variety of unwanted skin problems without a lot of recovery time needed, unlike the laser treatments and chemical peels that provide the same results.

The Dermaroller is a sterile, stainless steel cylindrical drum hand-roller studded with fine needles of varying lengths. This tool is applied with the science of micro-needling. A multitude of tiny puncture wounds are created along the area of skin one wishes to improve. There is no actual removal of the healthy epidermis, there is no tissue damage either this is merely a resurfacing technique. The wounds are just enough to induce the healing process. The production of new collagen and elastin is stimulated and healing time is rapid.

What are you able to repair with this technique? Acne scars, sun damage, age spots, wrinkles, and stretch marks as well as skin rejuvenation of the face, neck, and décolleté.  The Dermaroller can even help skin by with improved blood supply and  by allowing skincare products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin. The desired end result is what influences the size of the micro-needles used.

  •  0.25mm – Increased penetration of skin care products; improvement of color and texture.
  • 0.5mm – Smoothing of wrinkles, light acne scarring, mild chicken pox or ice pick scars.
  • 1.0mm, 1.5mm – Softening of deep stretch marks, reduction of cellulite and deep scarring — 1.5mm is generally the maximum needle length recommended for facial use.
  • 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm – For more severe deep scars and wrinkles, badly damaged skin.

Fine lines, wrinkles, scars and stretch marks can all be effectively treated with a dremaroller. As can cellulite and hyperpigmentation. Since this treatment doesn’t involve any injections, negative side effects are not likely to occur. The downtime patients experience is minimal, or none at all. The treatment is not painful and the healing process is fast, your skin may feel warmer than usual and tighter, as though you have sunburn immediately after treatment. This will reduce after a couple of hours; recovery is usually within the same day, although redness may remain for up to two days.

Dermaroller therapy is safe for all skin types. It will not discolor skin or induce sensitivity to UV light. Currently, the Dermaroller treatment is available at the Skintastic Uptown Medical Spa location.
