‘Tis the season for giving — and for giving back. While giving to charity is important all year long, the holiday season is full of opportunities to do a little bit of good and give back to our community. In fact, according to research from the Center on Philanthropy, the average person makes 24 percent of their annual donations to charities and non-profit organizations between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. Here are Skintastic‘s picks for Dallas area charity events.

The Trains at NorthPark

Kids of all ages (and the kid-at-heart) will love this elaborate display of toy trains, a holiday favorite at NorthPark Center. This year marks the 25th anniversary of The Trains at NorthPark, it’s 14th year located at NorthPark Center. All proceeds of the event benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas.

The Trains at NorthPark is open daily through January 6, with the exception of Christmas day. Tickets can be purchased for $1 off regular admission at any Dallas Tom Thumb location, or at the exhibit in NorthPark Center.

Holiday Angel Tree for Dogs

Paws Dog Bakery in Plano is hosting the 2nd annual Holiday Angel Tree for Dogs, benefitting the City of Plano Animal Services. Those wishing to support the shelter in Plano should purchase one of 10 select items the shelter uses on a regular basis. Items can be donated at Paws Dog Bakery.

North Texas Food Bank Annual Holiday Food Drive

Food donation boxes decorated as Christmas presents are scattered around the outside NorthPark Center, where shoppers can donate non-perishable food items to the North Texas Food Bank. Last year, 43,903 pounds of food and nearly $24,000 was collected to help our local food bank. At the North Texas Food Bank, $1 will feed three people.

Warm Springs Circle Christmas Trains

The Warm Springs Circle Christmas Trains in Plano is an outdoor G-Gauge Railroad decorated for kids and adults to enjoy this holiday season. The event is a canned food drive for local food pantries. Families who donate five or more cans or packages of non-perishable foods will receive admittance to the event.

 

Saturday, December 22 and Sunday December 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
