Flat is NOT Where it's At. 

Most artists or professional photographers can tell you that real interest is created not by one or two-dimensional subjects, but by the light and shadow playing upon the hill and valleys of the human form as the eye glides along them. A certain amount of muscle definition is what makes the body attractive, but for many, the 3-D, 'cut' look of 'six-pack' abs or a shaplier derriere is nearly impossible to acheive or maintain, because of the tendency to lose too much bulk in one area while attempting to tone another.

Recent leaps in medical technology and improved understanding of the physiology of the skin and underlying structures have given us two new high-tech procedures that are revolutionizing cosmetic surgery: SmartLipo laser body sculpting (laser-assisted lipolysis) and Vaser LipoSelection (selective ultrasound fat melting). SmartLipo, invented in Italy and used throughout Europe before U.S. FDA approval in 2006 is gaining notoriety for its ability to destroy small pockets of unwanted body fat while simultaneously heat-stimulating the skin’s collagen layer, by use of a long, very thin YAG laser threaded through tiny portals created in the skin’s surface. While highly effective, the shortfall of SmartLipo is that it is effective for smaller body fat areas--for those patients already very close to, or at their ideal weight. However, by adding Vaser ultrasound fat melting, the cosmetic surgeon is now able to treat larger body areas (and larger patients), safely working in direct proximity to muscle and areas of high vascularity, which are unharmed by ultrasound wavelengths that specifically only target fat cells. The ultrasound liposelection technology is first used to selectively melt away larger areas of unwanted body fat; SmartLipo is then more effectively utilized as a ‘finishing tool’, for working in smaller, tighter areas, and to heat-stimulate the collagen to gradually re-form tighter and smoother over the next four-to-six months.

Jeffrey Adelglass, M.D., F.A.C.S., Director of Surgery at SKINTASTIC Medical and Surgical Rejuvenation Center in Plano, a northern suburb of Dallas/Fort Worth, is the first cosmetic surgeon in Texas to combine SmartLipo laser technology with selective ultrasound fat melting (Vaser LipoSelection), using specialized high-definition surgical techniques. Dr. Adelglass emphasizes that the difference between the new HI-DEF liposculpture results and those of other popular body-sculpting techniques are, “the difference between night and day.
