 An annual survey from the American Academy of Facial and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFRS), as reported by Time, shows just how important it is for men and women to look good on social media platforms.

The AAFRS surveyed 752 of board-certified cosmetic surgeons and asked them about emerging trends they are seeing in their practices. Approximately, 31 percent of the surgeon surveyed said they are seeing an increase in patients who wanted plastic surgery to improve how they look online. Additionally, the survey showed that cosmetic surgeries are outpacing reconstructive surgery.

Last year, ABC News profiled a producer, Trina Lavey whose career was based around social media platforms. Lavey told ABC, “I think that social media has really changed so much about how we look at ourselves and judge ourselves. Ten years ago, I don’t think I even noticed that I had a weak chin.”

Lavey’s solution was to have a chin augmentation and others followed suit; the ASPS showed that chin augmentations increased by 17 percent in 2012. In addition, to a chin augmentation Lavey also had a nose job, and both procedures gave her renewed confidence.

“It extends all the way from Skyping with people [to] having people tag me in a Facebook photo.” Adding, “If the camera comes out at a party … I am fine with it. I am excited to see them. Before, I used to want to hold my chin, but now I want to show my face.”

Dallas men and women are very concerned about their appearance, so much so that Men’s Health magazine ranked it as the fifth vainest city in the U.S.

May, 15, 2013, Dallas, TX- Eyes are considered the mirror to the soul, they are one of the first things people notice about us and can convey to others a range of emotions from the love to angers. The eyes also tell others something about us that we may want to hide; our ages.

As most people enter the late thirties and early forties, fine lines– what we refer to as crow’s feet–begin to develop around the eyes corner an underneath, making us look older than we feel.
In addition to crow’s feet, older men and women may also notice that they have excess skin on their upper eyelids, bags or dark circles under the eyes, or droopy lower lids. Wrinkles and bags can make a person look tired and worn out, and though this may not be a person feels, it can give others that impression.
Because the human eyes are so expressive, those fine lines and droopy lids can quickly give away a person’s age, but there is a way to defy aging and maintain a youthful appearance through an eyelift.
Eyelifts, known as blepharoplasty, are one of the five most common cosmetic surgeries American men and women undergo, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery. While some procedures, namely body contouring, declined in 2012, statistics from the ASAP indicate that eyelifts increased by 4 percent. Overall plastic surgeons performed 204,000 eyelifts in 2012.
Blepharoplasty is a surgery that requires anesthesia so patients thinking about having this procedure should be aware of what it and the subsequent recovery entails.
Typically, eyelifts require anesthesia, but depending of the extent of the procedure, a patient can chose from intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. It’s important to ask your Dallas cosmetic surgeon which option will be best for you.
This surgery requires incisions to remove excessive skin or fatty deposits, but when plastic surgeons make the incisions, they do so in the natural contours so that once the healing process is complete patients do not have noticeable scars.
Following the procedure, an eyelift patient may experience some discomfort which can include blurry vision, caused primarily by the post-operative ointment your plastic surgeon will use. This will clear up quickly and shouldn’t cause any long-term problems.
Puffiness, mild pain and discomfort may last up to week to 10 days following the procedure so patients should take this time off of work, and limit their activities. This should be taken into consideration when planning your eyelift.
A patient can wear their eyeglasses immediately following the surgery but should refrain from wearing contact lenses for at least 14 days. Wearing eye make should be avoided for at least week after surgery. Reading and watching television will be possible a few days after the procedure.
Though there will be mild discomfort after the procedure, looking younger and less worn out will make the procedure well worth the time and money. April 30, 2013, Dallas, TX- Liposuction and breast augmentations are two of the most widely preformed cosmetic procedures in the U.S. and widely sought after in Texas.

For some women the thought of using fat removed from one area or their body to augment their breasts or add curves to their hips and buttocks is very appealing, but what some may question what are the benefits and some or the risks?

Earlier this year survey of British Plastic Surgeons revealed that more and more patients are opting to have fat injections instead of synthetic materials such as silicone and saline. In the UK fat transfers increased by 13 percent in 2012 alone.

In the U.S., liposuction is still one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, only eclipsed by breast augmentations and facial cosmetic fillers. Though breast augmentation and reconstructions are common, some women, who would normally have the procedure, are reluctant to do so because they are skeptical of saline or silicone breast implants, instead favoring something more natural.

Fat transfers are not a new procedure by any means, but in recent years it has become more common for plastic surgeons to use this procedure to augment the breasts and buttocks. Fat from liposuction can also be used as facial fillers to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and mouth

Doctors have used fat transfers in the breasts, buttocks, and other regions of the body since the 80s, and the procedure has minimal risks, according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. Those minor risks can include the development of cysts, calcification, and tissue scarring. These same risks can be observed  in women, who have not had a fat transfers,  and the main issue with these abnormalities is they were once hard to detect on a mammography, making it difficult for doctors to distinguish between calcifications from fat transfer, and those caused by unhealthy cells. But medical equipment has vastly improved minimizing the past concerns.

Another risk involved is that in some instances, the cells from fat transferred from one area to the other may not survive, according to the ASAPS.  While this doesn’t pose a serious health risk, it may not give a patient the immediate results.

Plastic surgeons have over the years refined fat transfer techniques, allowing them to gently remove the fat ensuring it survives the process.  That fat is then injected into the breast or buttocks with multiple syringes at different points in the area, leading to less scarring.

One of the primary downfalls of fat transfer for breast augmentation is that the patient can only augment their breast by one size. This is enough for many women especially if they prefer the idea of using a natural material, but those who want to go up one or more cup sizes should consider saline or silicone implants.

There are pros and cons to any type of breast augmentation procedure whether a patient chooses a fat transfer or implants. Each year, Pantone, the color authority, releases a report on the fashion and design colors of the year. The Spring 2013 Pantone colors are: Emerald, Dusk Blue, Tender Shoots, Grayed Jade, African Violet, Lemon Zest, Linen, Monaco Blue, Nectarine and Poppy Red.  Of those 10 colors, Emerald green has been named 2013’s “Color of the Year.”

These colors were selected to express the sense of balance and need for self-expression desired by consumers. “The expression ‘balancing act’ is something we all relate to as we strive to find harmony in the frantic pace of our everyday lives,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “The same can be said for fashion as we look for balance between light and bright, classic and new. This season’s color palette emphasizes this need for balance, while at the same time allowing for individuality, self-expression and excitement.”

Expect to see these colors, especially the greens — Tender Shoots, Grayed Jade and Emerald — show up in fashion, accessories and interior design this season. Tender Shoots is a cheerful and active yellow-green; Grayed Jade is a more subtle green with gray undertones; and Emerald is a radiant green.
