Peels

What is a chemical peel?
This treatment involves removing layers of the skin with fruit acids -- usually alpha hydroxy acids, allowing healthier skin to form. Peels are classified as superficial, medium, or deep, depending on the chemical and the length of skin exposure time.

Why do people have chemical peels?
Peels effectively help to reduce the depth of surface lines, smooth out rough skin texture, and help fade brown spots. Removing the top layer of skin (where most visible wrinkles are found) allows healthier skin to grow, giving a smooth texture to the skin and a glowing and radiant appearance.

Does it help with acne?
Yes, peels assist in drying out acne, and improve skin blemishes. This treatment is often used in conjunction with topical medications for acne.

Which peels do you use at Skintastic?
Our aestheticians apply superficial to medium-depth peels. Various peels are available depending on your skin type and sensitivity. Our staff can advise which peel is best for you. Chemical peels can be combined with microdermabrasion for superior results.

How much downtime is expected with a peel?
With superficial peels there is little downtime. Certain peels can be done on your lunch hour and you may return to work immediately afterward; however, you may experience some redness for 6 to 8 hours.

When will my skin begin peeling and how long will it last?
Everyone's experience is different, but most see flaking by day 2 or 3 following the treatment. With superficial peels, only light to medium exfoliation is expected.

Is the peel painful?
Peels are slightly irritating. You may experience mild burning and stinging, which is temporary.

Can pregnant women receive a peel?
No, it is not recommended. However an antioxidant facial will leave the skin with a healthy look that lasts seven to ten days. This facial is ideal one to two days before a special event.

What do I do before a peel?
Do not go to a tanning booth or sun bathe for at least 3 weeks before a treatment. Stop Retin-A or Renova for 1 week before the peel.

What do I do after a peel?
Follow the instructions on the post treatment instruction sheet you'll receive. Avoid direct sunlight and tanning booths. Our aesthetician will recommend skin care products that will maximize the benefits to your skin.
