The tummy tuck surgical procedure is performed by Dr. Kevin Light at our Plano, TX Surgical Center.
The abdomen often fails to return to its original shape after it has been stretched by pregnancy or weight gain. Unfortunately, this problem is also resistant to exercise or diet programs. In these cases, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) can provide a long-lasting solution resulting in a smoother, flatter abdomen.
The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to also tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall.
Tummy tuck operations vary in scope and are frequently subdivided into categories depending on the patients particular problem. Most of the time, the surgery is done under IV sedation and tumescent anesthesia. A complete tummy tuck can take 2 to 4 hours to perform. A partial abdominoplasty (Mini-Tuck) can be completed between 1 to 2 hours.
Partial Tummy Tuck – this procedure uses an incision over the pubic region. Excess skin and fat are removed and the muscle may or may not be tightened. Usually, the umbilicus (belly button) is either left untouched or relocated slightly without the need for an additional incision.
this is a more extensive operation in which an incision is made from hip to hip above the pubic area. An additional incision is used around the belly button to relocate it, since it gets pulled down once the excess skin and fat are removed. The muscles are usually tightened as well. The Avelar version of this procedure is used by Dr. Light which can result in not needing to insert a cumbersome drain in most patients and results in a speedier
Recovery generally takes 4 to 6 weeks. Most patients return to work after 2 weeks. A supportive abdominal binder or compression garment can minimize swelling / bruising, and support the repaired tissues.
